Revelation 14:6–7

The First Angel’s Message

John sees an angel flying high overhead. The angel has eternal good news to proclaim to everyone living on Earth: every nation, tribe, language, and people.

With a loud voice, the angel calls people to fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come.

Worship the one who made heaven and Earth, the sea, and the springs of water.

Understand the words

“Fear God” calls people to take God seriously and respond with reverence. It should not be reduced simply to feeling frightened.

To give God glory is to honor him. The angel directs worship to the Creator, not to the angel.

Judgment means that God judges. The passage announces its hour; it does not supply a modern calendar date.

Pause and notice

Who is meant to hear the good news? Whom does the angel tell people to worship?

Look back at the passage

The message reaches every nation, tribe, language, and people. The angel calls them to worship God, the Creator.
