Revelation 14:8
Babylon Has Fallen
A second angel follows, announcing that Babylon the great has fallen.
The angel says Babylon made all the nations drink the wine of the wrath of her sexual immorality.
Understand the imagery
The verse uses strong imagery: Babylon, wine, and sexual immorality. The wine describes something Babylon has spread among the nations.
Many Christians understand this imagery as including idolatry and unfaithfulness to God. That is an interpretation of the vision's language.
Revelation returns to Babylon in greater detail in chapters 17 and 18. Here we hear the announcement of her fall.

The ruined buildings visualize the announced fall. Verse 8 does not describe this architecture or the physical process of destruction.
The fallen cup illustrates the wine imagery. Its gold, size, and placement are artistic choices.
Christians interpret Babylon's identity differently. This exhibit does not label a modern city, nation, or denomination as Babylon.
