Revelation 12:15–16
The Earth Helps the Woman
The serpent pours water like a river from his mouth after the woman, trying to sweep her away.
But the earth helps her. It opens its mouth and swallows the river the dragon has poured out.
The pursuing flood is stopped. The dragon's attempt to sweep the woman away fails.

John describes the earth opening its mouth and swallowing the river. The rocky fissure in this painting is an artistic way of depicting that imagery.
The woman's eagle wings come from the preceding verse, Revelation 12:14. Her position, clothing, and the landscape are artistic choices.
Christians interpret the river and the earth's help in different ways. This scene presents John's imagery without assigning it to a particular modern event.
