Bowl 2 of 7 · Revelation 16:3

The Second Bowl

The second angel pours his bowl into the sea.

The sea becomes blood, like the blood of a dead person. Every living creature in the sea dies.

Pause and notice

Where is the second bowl poured? What happens to the living creatures in the sea? Consider privately or discuss with someone reading beside you.

Look back at the passage

The bowl is poured into the sea. Every living creature in it dies.

Why are there two red-water scenes?

These are separate bowls. The second affects the sea in Revelation 16:3. The third affects rivers and springs in Revelation 16:4.

We follow John's sequence: first the earth, then the sea, then the rivers and springs.

Explore the Scripture and artwork

The sea becoming blood and the death of its creatures follow the passage.

The red stream visibly pouring from the bowl, the boats, shoreline, angel's wings, and arrangement of fish are artistic choices.

Christians differ on how this vision relates to history. This exhibit does not identify a particular modern disaster as the fulfillment of this bowl.
